Thursday - Poetry Recital @ 8:45 in our room- Mary Michael Massie will coordinate refreshments for reception.

What We Will Learn This Week:
  • Bible - Psalm 139:1-10 & Jesus Storybook Bible 
  • Book of The Week -  Georgia Music by Helen V. Griffith
  • Phonics/Reading/Writing - Wilson Unit 4 - Digraphs - 2 consonants make 1 sound (th, sh, ch, ck, wh). Long/short vowels. New concept this week is -ck is used after a short vowel. Make words and sentences with sounds/letters learned thus far.  
    Morning Writing -March book - practice spelling & reading trick words.
    Trick Words (practice at home with cards) - said, when, you
    Continue to drill these at home and after they can read them, learn to spell them.
  • Math -March calendar, directionality; before/after; counting by 1's, 5's, 10's, money
  • Centers - "I Live in Georgia" book; Georgia's products (match names to picture & write); Georgia map

February 23-26

The children love "Mystery Reader"! If you want to come, email or text me. 
It can be any day of the week if Thursday doesn't work for you. Your child will be so excited. 

*Also, if you were wondering, we decided not to have narration this week since we only had 2 days of school. The book, however, is one of my favorites! Ask your child about it - Mr. Lincoln's Whiskers and Abraham Lincoln. They love learning history!

Tuesday - Atlanta symphony orchestra - DRESSY ENRICHMENT! Also, carpool will be located outside the office entrance like rainy day carpool.
Thursday - 8:45  - Poetry Recital- Dressy (Girls Sunday Dresses, Boys - Coat/Sweater & Slacks) Reception to follow.  Mary Michael Massie will give instructions for the reception food. Everyone invited (grandparents too)!

  • Book of The Week -  A Pair of Red Clogs by Masako Matsuno.  We will study Japan during this time and review setting, characters, and main events in the book.
  • Phonics/Reading/Writing - Wilson Unit 4 - Digraphs - 2 consonants make 1 sound (th, sh, ch, ck, wh). Long/short vowels. Make words and sentences with sounds/letters learned thus far.  Continue reading in decodable readers, dictation and creative writing.
    Trick Words (practice at home with cards) - be, me, see
    Math - Comparing and measuring lengths, ABC patterns, more/less, identify and counting money, counting (objects) by 1s, 5s, 10s.

  • Phonics/Reading/Writing - Begin Wilson Unit 4 - Digraphs - 2 consonants make 1 sound (th, sh, ch, ck, wh). Long/short vowels. Make words and sentences with sounds/letters learned thus far. New decodable reader, "Pig's Jet", Story elements (characters, setting, main events)
    Trick Words (new cards sent home this week) - we, she, he
  • Math - Comparing and measuring lengths, identifying/comparing shapes with geoboards, coin identification and value, number identification and writing.
  • Centers - Mystery Picture (number identification, fine motor); tie shoes, President letter

Tuesday, Feb. 24 - ASO - 11:15
Thursday, Feb. 26 - 8:45  - Poetry Recital (Please continue to work on poems and verses at home.  They will recite Psalm 139:1-10.)

What We Will Learn This Week:
  • Bible - Psalm 139:1-9   
  • Book of The Week -  Author Study - Leo Lionni.  We will read a book each day.  Some of the books are "Swimmy", "Frederick", and Alexander and the Wind-up Mouse."
    No book of the week narration this week, but homework on Tuesday will be a book report on a book that your child will bring home Tuesday by Leo Lionni.
  • Phonics/Reading/Writing -  Last week of Unit 3 - Review all skills in this unit.  We will read decoadable readers, dictation work, sentence and story structure.  I will assess them next week on Unit 3.

  • Math - Measuring using cups and quarts and reading a recipe.  Adding, writing numbers in order and correctly, numbers bingo, right/left, before/after; Money (dimes); measuring length

Tuesday, Feb. 24 - 11:15 - Atlanta Symphony Orchestra - normal carpool time but will be located in front of the chapel (more details to come) - Anna Voss to help
Thursday, Feb. 26 - 8:45  - Poetry Recital & reception - both are in our room
Mary Michael Massie (MOM February) has emailed a sign-up for refreshments.  Poems were sent home last week.  All memorization must be done at home.  We will practice at school.  The children will also recite our school passage that we have learned thus far, so please continue to work on that at home as well.

What We Will Learn This Week:
  • Bible - Psalm 139:8 & learn and practice vocabulary words within this verse.  The Jesus Storybook Bible.  
  • Book of The Week -  "Little Nino's Pizzeria" by Karen Barbour.  Themes in this book are: bigger is not always better, father/son relationship, servant's heart, homophones (knead,need).  Narration homework on Thursday.
    Also, we will make our own pizzas on Thursday to culminate this study.
  • Phonics/Reading/Writing -  Unit 3 - Review new concept - /k/ sound at beginning of words.  When you hear the /k/ sound at the beginning of word, it will be a c if followed by a,o, u.  Use k if followed by e or i.  Story elements (characters, setting, main events)
    Auditory discrimination between long and short vowels; Decodable readers; Journal Writing; Making sentences and punctuation. Morning writing book.
    Trick Words (practice at home with cards) - as, has, had 
  • Math - Months & Make February calendar, write numbers 1-20 correctly, beginning addition by combining sets and counting on; reading color words and following directions
  • Centers -  This week - Make/paint pizza book; Reread decodable reader (Ben is Ten); Make short vowel book; games;
